  • There is one Fish Farmer’s Development Agency (FFDA) in each of the 30 districts of the State. In the State, Fresh Water Pisciculture is being promoted through FFDA. These agencies provide technical, financial and extension assistance to the fish farmers since inception till 2002-03, an area of 53,787 hectares has been brought under the fold of scientific management.

During 2002-03, 2,097 Pisciculturists have been benefited through subsidized schemes. Training has been imparted to 305 Pisciculturists and 2,967 tanks have been developed covering an area of 1065.32 hectares under FFDA programme. The FFDAs have also collected Rs. 9.38 lakhs from the beneficiaries towards user charges.

Poly-culture and Integrated farming:

The FFDAs have initiated Polyculture and integrated fish farming through NABARD approved Schemes. Responses of the farmers are quite encouraging. So, this type of farming has been initiated to generate additional income in an effective manner. Success story on poly culture & integrated fish farming is described as under:

Shri Surya Narayan Das of village – Mali Chanchara in Belaguntha Block of Ganjam District is one such entrepreneur being encouraged by the technical officers of FFDA, Ganjam.
