A. (3) FRESHWATER PRAWN CULTURE:

i) Brief content of the scheme:

There is a great scope for Freshwater prawn culture in the state. Unlike shrimp farming there is no danger of diseases in monoculture of Freshwater prawn (scampi). There is also great demand and wide potentialities for export of Freshwater prawn.

ii) Incentive packages available to prospective entrepreneurs:

20% of the Capital Cost Rs. 0.40 lakhs (max.) for General and Rs. 0.50 lakhs for SC/ST. Input subsidy 20% up to a maximum of Rs. 0.24 lakhs for all.

The subsidy is provided by FFDA

iii) Other support (Training).

  • Training for freshwater prawn culture can be made available from the MPEDA.

  • MPEDA organizes field training of farmers for Freshwater monoculture in the neighbouring state.

iv) Eligibility:

  • All interested farmers/ educated unemployed youth are eligible to get assistance.

  • The beneficiaries should have clear ROR on the proposed project land.

  • Having capacity to provide margin money and mortgage for bank finance.

  • Should not be a defaulter to any kind of loan.

v) Application format:

No specific format has been prescribed for this project. The beneficiary has to apply to C.E.O., FFDA in plain paper.

vi) Procedure for submission and approval of application:

  • The application can be submitted to the F.E.O. of concerned block or to the Dist. Level Fisheries officer with following documents.

    1. Land records.
    2. Source / availability of water.
    3. Soil & water testing reports.
    4. Willingness of Financing bank.

  • Plan, estimate and feasibility report to be prepared by the FFDA cell of the Dist. Fishery Office.

  • Proposal to be submitted to the financing bank in the area of operation for sanction of loan.

  • Bank will study the feasibility by their technical officer and examine land documents etc.

  • Project to be implemented under the active supervision of the F.E.O/ Junior Engineer and Dist. Level Officer.

  • On completion of the project the subsidy can be released from MPEDA being sponsored by FFDA.
